About Roleen Selby
Roleen Selby is a passionate and dedicated pottery teacher
Roleen has a rich history in the art of ceramics. She completed her National Diploma in Art and Design Ceramics in 1979. This marked the beginning of a lifelong journey with clay. Through her business, Clay Magic, Roleen has taught pottery privately at her home studio and at various schools, Through this she shares her love and expertise in ceramics with countless students.
One of the notable milestones in Roleen’s teaching career was her time at St Vincent’s School. Her experience there led her to complete a Diploma in Sign Language. This unique skill set allowed her to attend two Olympic Games with the South African team as an interpreter. She also worked at the Premier’s Office, showcasing her dedication to communication and inclusivity.
Roleen's Approach to Pottery
Roleen’s approach to pottery is deeply spiritual and therapeutic. She has enriched her practice by completing courses in Neurolinguistic Programming and both basic and advanced Shamanic studies. These therapeutic energies are seamlessly integrated into her teachings, making her classes not only about learning the art of pottery but also about personal growth and healing.
Philosophy on Pottery
For Roleen, clay is more than just a medium for creating art; it is a powerful tool for tuition, coaching, and counselling. She believes that working with clay encourages people to empower themselves by understanding their connection to all living things. Through the process of creating with clay, individuals can experience ongoing growth and self-discovery.
The Elements and Pottery
Roleen emphasizes the significance of the five basic elements—fire, water, air, earth, and spirit—in her teachings. She believes that by using clay to unlock these elements, we can access the unlimited energy sources of the universe. Clay acts as a bridge and can be formed into vessels that symbolize humanity's boundless capacity for creativity.
