Take your pottery skills to the next level in our Advanced Pottery Workshop: Pierced Candle Holder,. This workshop is focuses on skill deepening and is an experience designed for potters with prior experience. In this refined, creative session, you’ll explore the intricate techniques of piercing and carving clay. This will result in a beautifully detailed ceramic lantern or candle holder.
Set in a calm and supportive studio environment, this workshop offers space to slow down, experiment, and challenge your craftsmanship. You’ll be guided through the process of planning your design, carving symmetrical or organic patterns, and creating a functional, light-bearing piece that casts delicate shadows when lit from within.
This is a hands-on session is tailored for those who already feel comfortable working with clay and are ready to refine their technique. In addition you will be able to focus on precision, and push the boundaries of their creativity. Whether your style is clean and geometric or delicate and decorative, you’ll be supported in bringing your vision to life with expert guidance.
Facilitated by ceramic artist Roleen Selby and Registered Counsellor and potter Kaela Sussman, this advanced workshop balances technical instruction with space for expression, patience, and presence. You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss surface treatment, glazing options, and structural considerations for working with negative space in clay.
Each participant will walk away with:
- A handmade pierced ceramic candle holder or lantern
- Improved carving and piercing skills
- Focused instruction and feedback from experienced facilitators
- The satisfaction of creating a complex and refined piece
Your piece will be fired and glazed after the workshop and will be ready for collection 2 to 3 weeks later.
This session is best suited for those with prior clay experience. All materials are included, and spaces are limited to allow for individual support and attention.

Terms & Conditions
Once you place your booking or order online, our system automatically sends you a confirmation email. This email contains your booking details, confirms your spot, and secures your place in the workshop. You don’t need to bring the confirmation on the day because we already record your booking in our system.
- Workshops booked cannot be refunded or redeemed for a later date.
- Please double-check your selected booking date and time at checkout.
- In the unfortunate event that you cannot make your scheduled date, you are welcome to gift your ticket to someone else.
From the time of the workshop, your piece will be ready to collect 2 to 3 weeks after (you will be notified via WhatsApp). You will need to collect your piece within 6 weeks of the workshop date, or it will be discarded.
Clay Magic Pottery Studio reserves the right to cancel or reschedule workshops at any point. Should this occur, you will be notified directly and offered the choice of a full refund or the option to be booked into the next available workshop.
